Old Soldier.

When I was strong in my youth my son, young and in my prime

Not a pace I could not set, nor mountain I could not climb

When I was strong in my youth my son, brash and sure like you

I served with the nations best, to beat me there were few

In my strength of youth my son, after so many battle fought

Fought with the strength of a lion son, just as the army taught

They taught me to fight to win, as always to fight to win

Though my mother said; No my son to fight is just a sin

The army built me strong my son; they built me strong and sure

Then they sent me away my son to fight an Asian war

What I saw and did son proved many pacifist right

For blood, fire and death my son, is never a pretty sight

I am not as young as you; years I have left maybe few

Never forget that you son, can be strong BUT GENTLE TOO!
